Purpose of the course

  • To ensure that all organisations that provide services to children, or provide staff or volunteers to work with or care for children, operate a procedure for handling allegations against staff that are consistent with the following
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children: Appendix 5(2006)
  • BSCB Allegations against Staff, Carers and Volunteers
  • Section 11 Children’s Act 2004 and Section 175 Education Act 2002; places duties on organisations and individuals to safeguard and promote the welfare of children

What will the course cover?

  • The national guidance and BSCB procedures will be highlighted.
  • There will be an opportunity to clarify the thresholds for “having been harmed or likely to be harmed”
  • The briefing will clarify the role and responsibility that managers have in ensuring that their organisation follows the procedures.
  • The role of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) will be explained.

Who will present the course?

The BSCB Training Co-ordinator and the Principal Care Manager for the Safeguarding Children and Reviewing Unit.
