Education Issues for Social Care Staff

This course is aimed at Children's Social Care Staff including Social Workers, Community Resource Workers and Foster Carers.

Aims:

  • To raise staff knowledge of Education (schooling) issues at Key Stage 1 to 4
  • To explain the SEN Code approach to learning and behaviour difficulties
  • To increase staff confidence levels in supporting the schooling of children and young people in their care

Objectives:

  • To provide opportunities for questions and discussion
  • To use practical activities to highlight common issues
  • To draw on case work examples, where appropriate
  • Share the Education Psychologist perspective on prioritising need at KS 1 to 4

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course participants should have acquired the following learning outcomes:

  • Have improved understanding of the National Curriculum's Key Stages
  • Have improved understanding of the SEN Code definitions of learning and behaviour difficulties
  • Have increased levels of awareness/confidence in supporting children and young people in their care
