Basic Food Safety Awareness - Face to Face Sessions

Level 1 Award in Food Safety Awareness Training

Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004 on the Hygiene of Foodstuffs

Course Duration - Minimum three hours taught with a half hour examination to follow.

Examination - 15 multiple choice examination.

Who is this suitable for? - Suitable for a variety of candidates, including new employees with minimal or no prior food safety knowledge, employees handling low-risk or wrapped food or those who are front of house, such as waiting or check out staff, as well as back of house staff such as kitchen porters or warehouse staff.

This will be suitable for staff in care homes, residential homes, education centres, leisure centre etc where the only food handling they may do is serving food to customers but who do not directly handle open high risk foods.

***This course is equivalent to what used to be the "Hygiene Awareness Course". Staff who prepare/cook food should undertake the "Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 Course" via e-learning.***

Outline Programme
The training programme covers the following topics:

  • Food Safety (food hygiene, hazards, responsibilities)
  • Personal hygiene
  • Cleaning
  • Contamination

Please note: Candidates will need to show some photo ID in order to sit the exam. Candidates will need to bring their council ID, a passport or a driving licence (with a photo on it) with them on the day. This is to confirm identification. If the documentation is not produced on the day candidates will not be allowed to sit the exam.
