Investigation of Adult Abuse
Objective
To provide a one day course which will enable participants to develop their skills in conducting investigations into allegations or suspicions of adult abuse.
Content
It is assumed that participants will have a basic awareness about adult abuse. The main content of the course will focus on how to:
- Investigate
- Gather evidence
- Assess risk of harm
- Liaise with other agencies
- Record
- Prepare for safeguarding adults meetings
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Familiarised themselves with local safeguarding adults policy and procedures
- Considered the issues surrounding information sharing and confidentiality
- A clear understanding about how to prepare to go out on an investigation
- Developed appropriate interviewing skills
- Increased knowledge regarding gathering and preserving evidence
- Had the opportunity to practice interviewing and taking notes
- Considered the importance of risk assessment in investigations
- Understood the importance of recording in relation to evidential requirements
- Knowledge about what information needs to be presented to safeguarding adults meetings
PLEASE NOTE - This is a very practice-based course so participants will be expected to engage in group discussion, practical exercises (to be carried out in pairs and small groups) and role play. Abuse is a very emotive issue and some participants may find the subject matter difficult. Ground rules will be set to help participants feel safe.
