Introduction to Mental Health - Modular Course
This modular programme is designed to provide a foundation level course for staff who work in social services, health services, voluntary and independent sectors.
- as an introduction for new staff
- for staff that come across mental health issues in the course of their work e.g. Residential, Day Care, Community Support Workers, non MH-specialist Social Workers, Voluntary Sector staff etc.
- It is an useful introduction for non MH-specialist SWs that are considering undertaking training to become an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP).

This session is led by Jen Kilyon from the Carers Project that work with carers of people with mental health difficulties. She will present the carers perspective and ways in which they can be involved. - Mental Health Legislation

This session will be led by two community nurses that work with older people. It will examine a range of interventions including medication and side effects, behavioural techniques and therapeutic approaches, particularly relating to work with older people but with applications across other service areas. - Eating Disorders

- Eating disorder a gender perspective
- Causative Factors
- Stigma, Social Exclusion and Mental Health
This session will look at the various ways that mental health service users are stigmatised and excluded from mainstream society and current initiatives to combat this.
