This course offers an introduction to the main provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 and related practice issues.

Learning Objectives:

To identify and, where appropriate, apply the main provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Understand the rights of service users and nearest relatives under the Act.
Examine the impact of the Human Rights Act on mental health law, and the main changes to be introduced by the Mental Health Act 2007

Aimed at: CPNs, ward nurses, junior doctors, residential and community support workers, non-ASW Social Workers, Care Managers or any other staff needing a basic knowledge of mental health law.
