What is Whetley Hill Resource Centre?

Whetley Hill is a Resource Centre built especially for physically disabled adults. It has care facilities and a self-service lunch bar.

The Centre provides various opportunities for you to:

  • Improve your health and wellbeing
  • Preserve and improve skills you already have
  • Learn new skills
  • Enjoy yourself!

Our team of experienced staff offers a high standard of personal care support.

Who can attend the Centre?

To attend the Centre, you must:

  • Have a physical disability
  • Live in the Bradford Metropolitan District Council area
  • Be between the ages of 16 - 65 years
  • Have discussed your needs with a Social Worker, and agreed with them that attending the Centre will be in your best interests (see How to apply)

There may be a charge to attend the Centre. This will depend on your financial circumstances and we will explain this to you.

How to apply

You or your carer can ask someone from the Bradford Social Services Physical Disabilities Team to discuss your needs with you to decide if this service is suitable. They can arrange an informal visit.

What we can offer you at Whetley Hill

Care facilities: We have hoists, assistance alarms and personal care facilities. Support Services are offered by an experienced Care -worker team supported by health colleagues.

An Information Technology Suite: Here you can learn new computer skills or practice those you already have. You can do it just for fun or to achieve recognised qualifications - courses can be tailored to your needs.

Bradford Community Broadcasting Studio: We provide training and support for people interested in writing, editing, interviewing and broadcasting live programmes ‘on air’.

Complementary Therapy Suite: You can enjoy Indian head massage, reflexology and hand and foot massages in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Rehabilitation kitchen: This offers you the opportunity to learn and practice those everyday tasks in life. There are lots of specially designed pieces of equipment available for you to try.

Accessible garden: In the spring and summer our Members enjoy helping out in our garden – there’s always weeding, watering and planting to be done! The garden is also a great social meeting place for Members.

MOTOmed bike: This is an exercise bike that makes it possible for disabled people to practice movement therapy with the support and guidance of our staff.

  • Music workshops
  • Healthy Living courses
  • Creative Communication courses
  • Social and fundraising events.

All our activities and courses are regularly reviewed by members, staff, Bradford College and other outside agencies and so they change from time to time.

Being a member at Whetley Hill

Regular members’ meetings are held where people are encouraged to express their views. This helps us to improve the services that we provide. There is also an elected members’ committee working together with staff to implement changes and influence the provision of services.
