Sensory Needs – support for people who have a visual impairment and/or hearing loss or who are deaf

Who is it for?

Anyone living in the Bradford Metropolitan District who is experiencing difficulties due to

  • Visual Impairment
  • Dual Sight and Hearing Loss
  • Deafness
  • Hearing Loss

What will we do?

  • Offer advice and information
  • Assess need (the outcome of assessment may include the following)
    • provide information
    • offer advice
    • provide support
    • provide equipment
    • provide mobility training
    • support Independent Living Skills (ILS) training
  • Register Visual Impairment
  • Demonstrate Specialist Equipment
  • BSL Interpreting Services
    • BSL
    • Lip speaking
    • support for people with both sight and hearing loss (Dual Sensory Loss)
    • Deaf Relay Interpreting
    • Mail Reading Service
    • Palantypist and Note taking
  • Guide Support Service (following assessment)
    • supporting people with both sight and hearing loss to maintain independence through a period of short term intense support followed by training and advice for others who would be involved in longer term support
    • Awareness Training
  • Deaf Independence Project (following assessment)
    • support for people who are Deaf with additional difficulties
    • Independent Living Skills training
    • Communication skills development
    • social interaction
    • support for families
    • Relay interpreting (via BSL service)
  • Signposting to other organisations
  • Awareness Training
