Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones is a Childcare Training Programme aimed at the 12 - 16 year old age group. It provides:
- practical help, advice and information for young people who find themselves being informal carers or baby sitters for younger siblings
- an awareness raising process for young people as to the needs and demands of babies and young children
- very useful information and training for possible parents of the future
Stepping Stones consists of a Course Manual which contains tutor notes, handouts, tutor resources, test papers, session plans, worksheets and certificates. Providers are encouraged to work in partnership with co-professionals for the best value delivery.
Delivery of the course
The programme can be delivered in a variety of ways. In total there are 9 modules with teaching time of 20 hours. Modules are delivered in a 1 or 2 hour sessions and when completed, are exchanged for a voucher. Certificates are awarded in exchange for the first four core module vouchers and also for a minimum of three optional modules in Section 2.
What learning does the programme cover?
The Core Modules are:
- The Needs of a Child and Practical Aspects of Childcare
- The Importance of Play
- Home Safety and Accident Prevention
- First Aid and Unwell Children
Optional Modules are:
- The Value and Benefits of Play
- Keeping Children and Young People Safe - Child Protection
- Personal Health and Safety Issues
- Babysitting
- Cardiac Resuscitation, Choking and Bleeding.
Cost
The cost of the pack is £100.00 if collected from Bradford Early Years & Childcare Service, or £110.00 if posted out.
Additional Stepping Stones Resources
Additional resources can be purchased to support the programme and providers in the Bradford District can also loan equipment, such as the Real Care Babies, from the Bradford Early Years & Childcare Service.

Bradford Early Years and Childcare Service is planning to offer a Stepping Stones Childcare Course delivery service to groups and organisations who are not able to purchase and/or deliver the programme in house. If you are interested then get in touch with the Childcare Workforce.
