Childcare: An Employer’s perspective
Recruiting and retaining good staff is critical for business success. Parents account for almost 40% of the UK workforce, so family friendly policies, quality and affordable childcare are important considerations to employees.
Employers can support the childcare needs of staff through a variety of ways:
Family friendly policies
Providing employees with basic childcare information shows a commitment to family-friendly employment.
Details of free, authoritative information can easily be incorporated into intranet sites, notice boards and HR maternity/paternity leave discussions.
Flexible working
Helps support the work-life balance for parents. Legislation introduced in 2003 means that parents do have a right to request flexible working. Employers have a duty to consider the request and must provide a serious business case if they cannot agree it.

Mobile Crèche
Employers may consider offering childcare facilities for staff meetings, conferences, training courses and away days.
