Financial Support and Intercountry Adoption

Financial Support for Adopters

There is no charge for the assessment process and the placement of a child where families are looking at placement of a child from within the UK.
There are four categories of financial support which can be considered at the time of proposing a placement:

  1. Ones to which all prospective adopters will be entitled (without an assessment of financial means) if they wish to receive them: Introductions expenses, Placement Grant which includes the cost of an application to court for an Adoption Order; currently the placement grant is £640.
  2. Legal representation costs - these would be available at the time of an adoption application in cases where it is judged to be needed.
  3. On group payments where the child to be placed meets the eligibility criteria, their payments are made subject to the assessment of their financial circumstances of their potential adoptive parents.
  4. Payments which may be made following an assessment of the child's needs and the families circumstances. There may be a single one-off payment for a specific time limited period.

Any questions you may have about financial support can be discussed with an adoption team member. Financial support can vary if the child has complex health needs and will be individually assessed.

Intercountry Adoption

Bradford Adoption and Fostering Service do not do assessments for this but where applicants wish to be assessed and prepared for intercountry adoption they need to contact The Yorkshire Adoption Agency who make a charge of £5,000 for this service.

If you are interested in adopting a child from abroad, please contact the Yorkshire Adoption Agency on 01302 349909.

If you just want to discuss this, you can call us on 01274 437343.
