Help with your housing costs - Housing Benefit & Council Tax Benefit
If you are living on a low income you could get help with your rent and/or Council Tax bills.
If you are not on a low income but have someone who is on a low income living with you, you may be able to claim Second Adult Rebate.
Who can claim Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit?
- Anyone liable to pay Council Tax can claim Council Tax Benefit.
- Anyone who is liable to pay rent for their home in the UK can claim Housing Benefit.
How much will I get?
To work out how much Housing Benefit/ Council Tax Benefit you may be entitled to we look at numerous things such as:
- Income.
- Capital (e.g. bank and building society accounts, investments, cash and property etc).
- Personal circumstances (such as your age, who lives with you, whether anyone in your household has a disability, etc).
Anyone who rents their home from a private landlord and makes a new claim and is entitled to Housing Benefit will have their benefit worked out under a new scheme called Local Housing Allowance.

How do I claim?
