- Support to older people who have a learning disability
When are the services available?
Services are open Monday to Friday
Where are they?
Services are across Bradford District.
How do I get there/access the service?
At the moment many users access these services using existing contract transport arrangements. However this contract is under review with plans to work towards a more person centred service.
Some users use their DLA component to either access public transport or private taxi services.
Who provides it?
The main provider is Bradford District Care Trust. However future plans are for this service to be contracted out to an independent provider with the view to modernise and develop creative opportunity for users.
There are other independent and third sector providers such as SNOOP, Shipley Leisure Libraries, Peacemakers, Big Soup, JOIN who also offer day opportunities.
How do they help?
The aim of these service is to offer a range of options for people that will support greater independence and enable people to work towards achieving future aspirations such as employment, learning life skills and establishing peer friendships and relationships and interests.
Day opportunity service do inadvertently offer some carers respite from their caring role.
How can I apply?
In the majority of cases referrals to all day service provision is done via a Care management assessment. Once an assessment is complete people can choose to have an individual budget when they can approach providers independently to purchase individual services.
What is an assessment?
In an assessment we gather information to work out what difficulties you, or your carer, are having and what sort of help you are asking for, then we work out what help we can offer
Is there a charge?
At the moment the BDCT provision is delivered as part of a block contract between Bradford Council and Bradford District Care Trust. Future plans are to move towards a person centred model where people will be able to use their individual budgets to purchase these day opportunity services.
Other providers will have their own hourly rate charges.
Can I get help with the cost?
If you want to have an individual budget and want the local authority to manage this on your behalf, you will need to speak to Community Learning Disability Team via the Access Point.
You can also contact the independent and third sector providers directly for costs.
