Other schemes and activities
There are a range of different groups offering a wide range of activities, befriending, exercise and practical help. Many of the schemes, especially for older people are local and vary from place to place. We can advise you on what’s available where you live.
We also have a number of luncheon clubs in the district.
They are a good chance to have a hot meal in a friendly social environment.
We welcome people from all cultural backgrounds and our day centres and luncheon clubs will try to cater for everyone’s needs and preferences.
When are they open?
Day centres are usually open all day Monday to Friday. Luncheon clubs are usually open for a few hours a day.
Where are they?
The local authority has a number of homes across the district. All our services specialise in care for adults with varying physical and mental health needs. Our services are also culturally sensitive and respect people’s cultural and diverse needs. All our establishments have disabled access.
How do I get there?
If you haven’t got access to transport we can an assessment for you. Contact a social worker for assessment.
Who provides it?
All our establishments are staffed with highly trained professional support staff that are trained and qualified to provide you with the support you need. Providers include Bradford Council, Housing associations and Health partners. We have a highly skilled and qualified workforce providing services in all our establishments. Each centre has a manager who directs the care in that centre. Our staffing levels reflect statutory requirements that are laid out by CQC.
How do they help?
Service users will have a care support plan which will identify the strengths and skills of the individual and identify areas where support and enablement is required. This is complied with both the service user and the care staff. The individual needs are catered for through a personal care planning process.
How can I apply?
Usually you can contact your chosen day centre directly to discuss your interests.
The scheme co-ordinator will usually visit you at home to discuss your options.
If your needs are more specialist or complex we will carry out an assessment at your home. Access to our services is done through our colleagues in Assessment and support who will undertake an initial assessment of service user needs. A referral will then be made to the appropriate centre. A member of the team will then discuss with the individual their current needs and aspirations and will discuss a care plan to reflect those needs of the service user. They will then arrange an introductory visit for the individual.
What is an assessment?
In an assessment we gather information to work out what difficulties you, or your carer, are having and what sort of help you are asking for, then we work out what help we can offer
What happens after the assessment?
The appointed assessor will discuss with the individual the outcome of the assessment, which will highlight the support needs and discuss with you, the services available and the location of these services. Your social worker will take all your needs into careful consideration and speak to you about the best option for you from a range of options.
Is there a charge?
You will need to contribute to the cost of attending day care or a day centre / luncheon club. This depends on how often you attend and your personal circumstances.
Your ability to pay will be assessed and you will be advised by your social worker about this.
Most grant-funded voluntary and community groups make a small charge towards food, refreshments and transport.
There will be a financial assessment prior to individual taking up a service. The individual will know this charge before committing to the service.
Can I get help with the cost?
This depends on your personal circumstances.
A financial assessment will be carried out and we will let you know what help is available. Any assistance required with meeting the cost of these services will be discussed in your initial assessment.
It’s my first time, who will meet me there?
On your first visit you will be introduced to a member of staff who will familiarise you with the centres amenities and facilities. During the visit you will have the opportunity to talk to other service users. A member of staff will support you through this introductory day. You will have plenty of opportunity to discuss any concerns and ask any questions before you make a decision. You will be given contact details of the person(s) meeting you on the day prior to your visit.

I want more choice and control
If you want to arrange services and support for yourself, then you might be interested in Self Directed Support.
This gives you an Individual Account or Direct Payment from us which you can use to arrange your own support.
You can look after the money yourself or ask the Council to hold the money and help you find the support you need.
You can discuss this at the time of your assessment with your social worker.
