Community Meals

Who is it for?

  • The service is available to anyone living in the Bradford District
  • The service is available to everyone, no assessment is required

What is the Community meals service?

The Community meals service offers a Hot and Frozen delivered meal service.

The meals consist of two courses and will be either a starter and main course or main course and dessert.

Salads are also available.

The meals are nutritionally balanced and can cater for a wide variety of dietary and cultural needs – diabetic, vegetarian, Asian, Halal, African-Caribbean, soft diet and pureed diet.

Hot Meal Service

The meals are delivered hot and ready to eat.

Frozen Meal Service

Frozen meals are delivered on weekdays and will be a minimum of 8 and maximum of 14 meals per person.

The meals are nutritionally balanced and can cater for a wide variety of dietary and cultural needs – diabetic, vegetarian, Asian, Halal, African-Caribbean, soft diet and pureed diet.

The frozen meals will usually be all delivered on the same day and the driver will store your frozen meals in your freezer.

There is no charge for delivery to your home.

A table-top freezer and Microwave are also available to hire.

When is it available?

Hot Meal Service

Meals are delivered 7 days a week, 365 days of the year including Bank Holidays, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Driver will deliver your meal between 11.30am and 1.45pm.

If you are unable to get to the door, the driver can use door entry codes or a key safe to come into your home and deliver your meal.

If for any reason the driver cannot gain access to your home to deliver your hot meal they will ring one of the following:

  • The emergency contact number you have given us
  • The Support Options Team
  • The emergency services if appropriate

This Well-being Check is part of the service.

There is no charge for delivery to your home and the Driver will store your frozen meals in your freezer.

Bradford Council’s Community Meals Team in partnership with Apetito.

Frozen Meal Service

Bradford Council’s Community Meals Team in partnership with Wiltshire Farm Foods. All drivers carry identity cards and wear a distinctive uniform.

Is there a charge?

Hot Meal Service

Cost of a meal is £5.66 for 2 courses - this includes choice of main meal and a choice of dessert.

Payment can be made by cash or cheque to the Driver or you can pay by cheque on a monthly statement or you can pay over the telephone by via debit or credit card or you can pay by monthly Direct Debit.

A Tea Time Meal Pack can delivered on the same day as your hot meal and is available for an additional cost of £3.00 - it consists of a sandwich, fruit drink, biscuit and chocolate or strawberry mousse.

Frozen Meal Service

Cost of a meal is £2.65 per meal this includes a main course with a choice of a soup or dessert.

Minimum order required is 8 meals over two week period and maximum you can order is 14 meals.

All meals are nutritionally balanced and the service can cater for a wide range of dietary and cultural needs for example: diabetic, vegetarian, Asian, Halal, African-Caribbean, soft diet and pureed diet.

Payment can be made by cash or cheque on delivery or alternatively you can pay by debit or credit card over the telephone before delivery.

Can I get help with the cost?

No, there is no financial support available for community meals

Hot Meal Service

  • You can choose how many meals a week you would like
  • You can choose which days of the week you would like your meals delivered
  • You can start and end these services whenever you like
  • You can just have meals delivered for a short period of time due to a change in your circumstances
  • You can just have meals delivered for a short period of time due to a change in your carer’s circumstances
  • You can have meals delivered to cover holiday periods etc.

Frozen Meal Service

  • You can choose when to have your meal
  • You can choose what meal you want to have
  • There is no charge for delivery
  • The Driver will store your frozen meals in your freezer
  • You can hire a table top freezer and/or a microwave
