Youngsters take on a challenge
Youngsters in the Bradford district are looking forward to taking part in a summer challenge that will develop their team-building, decision-making and social skills to better equip them for the future.
Bradford is one of the pilot projects running across England this summer, offering free places on a programme that helps young people to develop and become more confident and socially responsible adults.
The programme, called Summer of a Lifetime, is being delivered by Bradford Council's youth service along with The National Young Volunteers Service, and the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.
Coun Ralph Berry, Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, said: "This programme brings young people from all different backgrounds to work together, take on new challenges and build their self-esteem.
"They will take on outdoor physical challenges that will develop their teamwork skills and get involved in planning, designing and delivering projects that will help their local communities.
"It is a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters to have some fun over the summer but at the same time develop skills that will improve their employment prospects."
Sue Duffy, Manager for Integrated Youth Support, said the young people will be attending residentials in Malham, North Yorkshire, and Coniston in the Lake District, during the next couple of weeks before coming back to Bradford to discuss what social projects they would like to work on and which would be of benefit to local people.
