Young divers win haul of medals
Young divers from the Bradford district are celebrating after winning 11 medals in a competition hosted by Plymouth Diving Club.
The City of Bradford Esprit Divers collected the haul of medals at the fourteenth Armada Cup Competition, which was held at the Central Park Pool in Plymouth from Thursday, 16 until Sunday, 19 February.
The annual event has consistently seen representation from Bradford Esprit, which trains with Bradford Council’s Sport and Leisure Service’s Aquatic Competition Programme, and the team was this year represented by 17 divers.
The team secured places in 16 finals and won three gold medals with Ruby Bower and William Hallam in the 3m, and Sam Thornton in the 1m.
It also achieved five silver medals with Ruby, Will, Sam and Mike Jones in the platform; and Will in the 1m. In addition it won three bronze medals with Holly Waxman in the platform; Sam in the 3m; and Jake Rose in the 1m.
Bradford Esprit scored 288 combined points, which put it fifth overall in team points.
Coun Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s Executive Member responsible for Sport and Leisure, said: "This is a brilliant result for the team and proves how hard the members have been training, and also the sheer amount of commitment they have shown to their sport.”
