School’s out for summer

Every primary school child in the Bradford district will receive a School's Out summer guide next week.

Bradford Council’s 12-page colour guide is full of exciting summer activities to keep pupils entertained during their holidays.

The wide range of events includes sporting activities such as junior keep fit, athletics, badminton, canoeing and kayaking, climbing, cricket, dance, gymnastics, and trampolining.

As part of the Council’s b-active programme, the Sport and Leisure Service will be running 70 play and activity schemes across the Bradford district in addition to organising a range of fun day trips to Chester Zoo, Bridlington and Lightwater Valley.

There are also a mass of cultural activities in Bradford’s Museums and Galleries for youngsters to enjoy including Tudor dramas, river dipping, demonstrations, and the chance to learn some craft skills.

Children may also like to get involved in the great Summer Reading Challenge. The Library promotion, which will be running in all of the district’s libraries, will be themed around the circus. Activities include teddy bears picnics, circus skills workshops, and music and rhyme time sessions.

The guide also features information about Sky Ride (a free event in which people will be able to cycle through traffic free streets in Bradford on Sunday, 31 July), the British Science Festival (events for children and families will take place in Centenary Square and St George’s Hall on 10-11 September), and Bradford City Run (which will take place on Sunday, 2 October).

Coun Ralph Berry, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for children and young people, said: “We want to make sure that children are given plenty of options and things to do this summer and our School's Out guide covers everything that is going on in the Bradford district.

"There is something for everyone and I'm sure the youngsters will enjoy taking part in the various fun events throughout their holidays."

Copies of the guide will also be available at local libraries, sports centres and community centres.
