Parents and carers who have a child with additional needs are invited to attend a free event to discover what support is available to them in the Bradford district.
The Disability Information Fair will give people the opportunity to talk with representatives from a wide range of health, leisure and education services. It will also provide information on topics such as support for families, Direct Payments, Short Breaks and local groups.
The drop-in event has been organised by the Parent Forum for Bradford and Airedale in conjunction with Bradford Council, Barnardo’s, Carers Resource and local voluntary organisations.
It will be held at the Mercure Hotel (formerly Bankfield Hotel) in Bingley on Wednesday, 29 February between 12noon and 6pm. It is aimed at parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities aged 0 -25, and professionals who work with such families.
The fair will give parents and carers the opportunity to share experiences, and professionals the chance to network with other practitioners.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Coun Ralph Berry, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, said: "Many parents and carers of children with disabilities or complex health needs have reported difficulties in accessing information on what support is available to them in the area, which this event will help to address.”
For support with transport or interpreters, please contact Marianne at Barnardo’s on 01274 481183.
Children and young person with additional needs may have a physical, communication, sensory, behavioural or learning disability, or a long-term or life-limiting condition. This may also include those with emotional health and wellbeing needs where there is an impact on their daily life, including those with more significant mental health problems.
