New play park

Children at two Bradford schools are celebrating the opening of a new outdoor play park which was partly funded by Bradford Council.

The new Community Adventure Playground will be enjoyed by 1,200 children from Horton Grange and Farnham primary schools.

The £75,000 project designed by Bradford Council’s Landscape Design Unit has seen the transformation of an unattractive, badly-drained uneven patch of ground into an exciting adventure area.

The park makes use of the natural elements and provides a host of activities such as slides, climbing frames wound around trees and grassy mounds for imaginative games.

Coun Imran Hussain, Deputy Leader of Bradford Council, said: “Play is an essential part of childhood and all children, whoever they are and wherever they live, deserve to have safe, attractive places to play

“The new park is a great boost for local children and I am sure they will be even more excited as each break time approaches.

"Play is a big part of the learning experience and this new area will help the youngsters develop as much as they can.”

Duncan Jacques, Head Teacher of Horton Grange Primary said: “The adventure playground adds a vital community play space.

“It will be used by children from both schools and is the only safe grassed play space available on site.

“We are delighted with the quality of the equipment and hope it is used appropriately and safely for many years to come.”

The park was funded in partnership by local primary schools, Bradford Council’s Bradford West Area Committee and the charity organisation Play England.

The park’s official opening will take place on Friday when new signs will be installed and the new name the children have chosen for the area will be announced.
