Military Covenant Signing
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Naveeda Ikram will host the signing of the Bradford District Armed Forces Community Covenant Pledge on Monday.
Bradford Council's Executive has endorsed a recommendation to sign the Pledge and to set up a working party to implement a plan which includes a civilian and military partnership to look into issues which affect serving military personnel, veterans and their families.
Setting up the Covenant could give local organisations supporting the armed forces community access to Government grants of up to £250,000.
It will make it easier for serving armed forces personnel, their relatives and veterans to access help and support in areas such as health, housing and other services.
Work is already underway with voluntary organisations and public sector bodies like the health service, fire service, courts and probation service to help develop the covenant.
Bradford Council Leader Coun Ian Greenwood said: "Bradford has had a close relationship with the military for many years, particularly with local regiments. To be able to offer more help it is important to set that relationship on a more formal basis.”
