Inclusion event for Keighley young people with disabilities

Bradford Council's Youth Service is inviting young people with disabilities to come along and try out activities at its Keighley centre.

The Inclusion Launch Event on Saturday (11 February) at Keighley Young People's Centre on Parkwood Street aims to give young people with disabilities the chance to try new activities.

The taster event, targeting 11 to 25-year-olds and their parents or carers, is being organised as a pilot of a new weekly Saturday morning session starting the following week. The aim is for this to become an inclusive project where disabled and non-disabled young people can take part in activities together and develop lasting friendships.

Future activities will include arts and crafts, outdoor pursuits, cook and eat sessions, ICT activities and sports.

At Saturday's launch - which runs from 10am to 1pm - visitors will be able to try out activities such as cooking and arts and crafts. They will also be asked for their views on a regular session.

Information will be available on other schemes, such as the b-friending Project, run by the Youth Service which enables 11 to 25-year-old s to make friends and go on trips with disabled and non-disabled young people and Area Inclusion Workers who support 11 to 19-year-olds to access leisure activities and organise short breaks for families.

Coun Ralph Berry, Executive Member for Children's Services, said: "This is a great chance for young people with disabilities in the Keighley area to find out what facilities are available for them and try out some new activities."
