Business owners in Haworth are being invited to submit ideas to improve the historical character of their property and attract more visitors to the village.
Working in partnership with Bradford Council, English Heritage is offering to help fund developments to re-introduce lost historical details such as traditional shop fronts and sash windows.
The scheme coincides with the completion of work by the Council to help preserve the traditional character of the world-famous home of the Bronte sisters.
New street furniture, including seats and signposts, have been put in place and natural stone setts and footpaths have been repaired on Main Street.
Last Summer with Bradford Council, English Heritage held an exhibition in the village to show shopkeepers examples of properties as they were in the past.
Now property owners can submit their own ideas for enhancing their shops and creating a more authentic atmosphere for visitors as they stroll up and down Main Street.
In letters to business owners, English Heritage is offering funding grants of up to 80 per cent to help selected projects achieve their ambition.
In Keighley's historic centre, the Keighley Townscape Heritage Initiative is carrying out a similar improvement scheme, with a £2.7 million grant supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Bradford Council.
The project will see a programme of redevelopment including the restoration of historic buildings and their re-use, as well as restoring traditional shop fronts.
Bradford Council's Heritage Champion and Executive Member for Housing and Planning, Coun Val Slater, said: "The association with the literary legacy left by the Bronte sisters has made Haworth a world famous tourist attraction.
"Projects that make areas like Main Street even more attractive to visitors should be given the support they deserve.”
Coun David Green, Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: "Haworth is a truly special place for lots of reasons and its great to see conservation work carried out by Bradford Council backed up by the efforts of English Heritage.
"Improving the look of the village will make it even more attractive to visitors and locals alike.”
English Heritage Regional Director Trevor Mitchell said: "A restored shop on Haworth Main Street will be more attractive to customers and tenants which, in turn, will lead to increased business revenue.
"This project will benefit everyone involved and should result in some exemplary showcase designs for the village.”
