Going back to your roots

Why not start a new hobby in the New Year and take a journey into your family history with Bradford Libraries?

Tracing your ancestry is becoming increasingly popular, and Bradford's Library Service has teamed up with Bradford College to offer a fun and absorbing course that will guide people through this fascinating subject.

Ideal for beginners, the 10-week course will be open to anyone interested in researching their family tree.

Participants will receive expert help and guidance in learning how to trace family history by using library resources such as ancestry websites, census and military records, and birth, marriage and death indexes.

The course will run at:

  • Keighley Local Studies Library. Starts on Tuesday, 24 January 2012 and Thursday, 26 January at 10am-12noon.
  • Bradford Central Library. Starts on Saturday, 28 January 2012 at 10am-12noon.

Coun David Green, Bradford Council's Executive Member responsible for Culture, said: "Researching family history is a rewarding process and with millions of records available online, there has never been a better time to start.

"These courses will offer people a great opportunity to delve into their past and find out who their ancestors were.”

The course will cost £50 per person, including an enrolment fee. Concessions will be available for those in receipt of specified benefits.
