Festive fun and treats at Bradford Markets

Residents will be able to pick up plenty of festive treats at Christmas markets being organised across the district by Bradford Council.

The bustling seasonal markets will have something to tempt all the family, from delicious cakes, preserves and chutneys to a host of arts and craft stalls selling handmade cards, soaps, jewellery, handbags, and hair accessories.

Bradford's Christmas market will arrive with over 50 stalls on Thursday, 1 December and will stay until Sunday, 4 December on Darley Street, Kirkgate, Bank Street and Tyrrel Street.

Shipley residents will also get their own Christmas market in Market Square on Friday, 9 December and Saturday, 10 December. Around 25 stalls will sell a wide variety of gifts and novelties for all tastes.

Saltaire local produce market on Saturday, 17 December will provide a last chance for shoppers to stock up on locally sourced goods before Christmas Day. The region's finest producers will offer mouth-watering quality food from Caroline Street Car Park.

There will also be a range of festive family activities throughout December in-store at Bradford Markets.

Children will be able to have their faces painted and visit Santa’s grotto in Keighley Market. They will also be able to call in at Santa’s sing-a-long Grotto for free at the Oastler Shopping Centre, where there will be entertainment from a Dickensian barrel organ and Gawthorpe Brass Band. All activities will be available from Saturday, 10 December.

In addition, Kirkgate Market will offer free face painting and balloon modelling every Thursday and Sunday from 1 December. A singing Santa will also visit the market.

Coun David Green, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: "These Christmas markets are a delight to visit and a great source of presents and food. They add to the mix of retail we offer in our city and surrounding towns, bringing more people into the district to shop.

"The in-store activities will also help to create a festive atmosphere and I would urge everyone to visit at least one of these markets, and to support local shops and retailers."
