Householders in Bradford can save up to 45 per cent of their heating costs by taking advantage of a new insulating scheme being piloted by Bradford Council.
The Bradford Warmer Insulated Stone Homes (WISH) scheme is designed for stone homes which are difficult to insulate.
Residents may have been told previously that their houses were not suitable for traditional cavity wall insulation.
But now the Bradford WISH scheme offers Technitherm ® PUR foam cavity wall insulation which is suitable for most coursed stone built homes which have a cavity with metal wall ties.
The pilot is for 50 properties within the district and Bradford Council is offering a grant of £1,000, with conditions, towards the costs of this insulation, plus a further grant is available through partners Scottish Power.
Coun David Green, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: "With energy prices predicted to rise, this is a very important scheme which will help residents make significant savings on their fuel bills.
"It will also reduce the district’s carbon emissions to help tackle climate change.”
The WISH scheme is not free. Residents will have to contribute toward the costs but with the grants available will greatly reduce the cost of insulating these typically hard to treat homes.

The cost of insulating a typical semi-detached/end terrace house will be around £900 after the grant and a typical mid-terrace house will be around £635 after the grant.
These figures are for guidance only. Each property will require a survey to provide an accurate quotation.

You will be asked a few questions about your property and a surveyor will need to visit your home to assess the building is suitable for this type of insulation.
This scheme is limited to 50 properties, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis and the closing date to apply for the scheme is Friday, 17 February, 2012.
