The date for the official launch event at City Park has been revealed – Saturday, 24 March.
As building work on the Bradford Council scheme nears completion, planning has begun for a celebration to show off the park, building to a night-time finale.
It is the first confirmed major diary date at the six-acre site in Bradford city centre and full details of the free event will be announced soon.
The park is due to open to the public in January when construction is expected to be completed, except some work on the Pavilion building.
Plans for the rest of the 2012 City Park calendar are still being finalised but the site will be used as a focal point for national events, including the Olympic Games, as well as local diary dates, such as the Lord Mayor's Parade and St George's Day commemorations.
Coun David Green, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: "The official launch event promises to be a great day at City Park.
"Construction work is due to end in January and the park will open at that point but the event in March gives us the chance to officially launch it with a bang and showcase the fountains, artworks and space as a whole.
"It will mark the starting point of City Park becoming a venue for large and small-scale, community-based, events that bring more visitors in to the city centre and support the local economy.”
City Park contains a 4,000sq ft mirror pool and 100 fountains, including 40 low-powered fountains for children's enjoyment.
It features a 100ft central fountain, the tallest in any UK city, and has been designed to create a vibrant public space for people of all ages to enjoy with areas for rest, relaxation and play.
