A civic concert to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne will be held in Ilkley this weekend.
Organised by Ilkley Parish Council, the concert, at St Margaret’s Church, Queen’s Road, Ilkley will feature the City of Bradford Brass Band, Steeton Male Voice Choir and mezzo-soprano Margaret McDonald.
It is one of a series of events happening across the district to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.
The event takes place on Saturday, 11 February at 7pm. Tickets, costing £7.50, are available from Ilkley Visitor Information Centre, or by calling 01943 602319, or via email at ilkley.vic@bradford.gov.uk. Refreshments will be available in the interval.
The concert will be attended by Roger Whittaker, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Val Slater.
The Chairman of Ilkley Parish Council, Coun Heathcliffe Bowen, said: "The year’s celebrations continue Ilkley’s long tradition of marking Royal occasions and the Parish Council is more than happy to host this inaugural local event to mark the Queen’s accession to the throne."
Bradford Council is working in partnership with the West Yorkshire Lieutenancy Office (the Queen’s representative in the county) to encourage communities to take part in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations by organising their own projects and events. There are already more than 70 events planned in the district so far.
