Celebrate Children’s Book Week

Children across the Bradford district have been invited to attend a wide range of fun reading events.

Themed story time sessions, funny poems, and school activities have been planned at Bradford Libraries as part of Children’s Book Week.

The annual celebration of reading for pleasure for children of primary school age will be held nationwide from 3-9 October.

Some of the highlights are a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party (Burley Library on Monday, 3 October from 2.30pm); funny poems (Clayton Library on Monday, 3 October from 6pm); Horrid Henry themed craft and story session (Thornbury Library on Friday, 7 October from 2pm); Paddington Bear story time (Wyke Library on Friday, 7 October at 10am), and Oliver’s Vegetables related activities (Wibsey Library on Thursday, 6 October from 3.45pm).

Children’s poet Philip Burton (aka Pip the Poet) will also perform fun and interactive sessions to children from eleven specially invited schools.

His lively poetry show, which uses props and puppets, will encourage children to think about poetry and to try to write their own. He will visit six different libraries between 3-4 October.

Coun David Green, Bradford Council's Executive Member responsible for Culture, said: "These events will really get children excited about reading. It is a great time for children to join their local library and to start to discover the wonderful world of books.”

Lots of other events are planned at many libraries across the district. For further information, look out for special notices in your local library or visit www.bradford.gov.uk/libraries.
