Blitz on blighted area
Another stage in the transformation of a blighted area of West Bowling began this week.
Last year the area around Birk Lea Street was made the subject of a Designated Public Place Order to get rid of anti-social street drinkers, now Bradford Council Wardens are pressing ahead with further improvements.
The Council's action plan for the area has been reviewed and further issues have been identified, particularly litter and large amounts of rubbish left.
Bradford East Council Wardens began intensive work on Monday to make sure everyone who lives in the area is fully aware of their responsibilities to get rid of waste and litter properly.
Residents will be visited and landlords contacted regularly, as the area around Birk Lea Street has a large proportion of rented properties and there is a high turnover of residents.
The new council warden service began operating in late January, and includes staff from the former neighbourhood warden service, civil enforcement officers and park rangers.
Coun Imran Hussain, Deputy Leader of Bradford Council said: "This is an ideal opportunity for our new warden service to show how effective it can be in tackling a range of issues affecting the quality of life of our residents.
"Working with other agencies and residents of the area we can show what a vital role our wardens can play in the community.”
Ward Councillor Sher Khan said: "People acting responsibly and taking pride in their surroundings can make an enormous contribution to environmental improvement.”
They will also be seeking to involve other parts of the Council in tackling issues which may emerge including overcrowding, the fitness of the housing and other tenancy issues.
