Bradford Council is helping to give people the chance to become part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
It has organised a workshop to encourage people to sign up to Sport Makers, which is a national volunteering programme that aims to get more people playing sport and helping out in their local clubs and communities.
The free event, which is open to people aged 16 or over, will be held at Bradford City Hall on Wednesday, 29 February between 6.30-9.30pm. To attend, people need to register as a Sport Maker and book a place through www.sportmakers.co.uk
The workshop will provide information about the programme, including ways in which to get involved and how to inspire a love of sport in other people. It will also give attendees the opportunity to meet local sports people and representatives from sports National Governing Bodies.
Coun Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s Executive Member responsible for Sport and Leisure, said: "This initiative will help to encourage people to b active and will ensure that the Olympic Games leaves a lasting legacy by developing sporting opportunities across the Bradford district.”
There are many ways in which Sport Makers can get involved in their local community. They may organise a friendly tennis session to help work colleagues get to know each other, or encourage five friends to do a local run in the park once a week. Alternatively, they could set up a fundraising fun-run for their area or welcome new participants at a local hockey club.
All Sport Makers who complete ten hours of volunteering by Tuesday, 1 May will be entered into a ticketshare ballot for free Olympic tickets.
Sports Makers is being co-ordinated in the Bradford district by West Yorkshire Sport, which was formed in 2001 after the five local authorities came together to deliver sports development programmes.
It is hoped that 40,000 Sport Makers will be recruited across the country who will help to create new opportunities for people to play sport as part of the official London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy
