Back to nature at Wibsey Park
Children and young people in Wibsey are being invited to don their wellies and get stuck in over the half-term holiday.
Bradford Council's Bradford South Area Co-ordinator's Office and other partner groups are running a Half-Term Nature Week at Wibsey Park. The four-day event includes a range of activities to reclaim, restore and enjoy the park.
Families can help restore the park's nature trail, join in with a litter pick or have a go at junk modelling. Those helping with the litter pick will also get a free lunch.
Other items include the restoration of the play area, an Eco Club for 8 to 13-year-olds and Women's Growing Club at the park's nursery. The events run as follows:
- Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 February: 10am to 3pm - Eco Club
- Wednesday 15 February: From 10.30am - Free Women's Growing Club at Wibsey Community Gardens
- Thursday 16 February: Children's activities to restore nature trail, litter pick, junk modelling, refreshments.
Coun Imran Hussain, Deputy Leader of Bradford Council, said: "This is a great way for children and young people to do something really positive for their community over the half-term break as well as a fun way to learn about nature. I hope it is well supported."
Ward Councillor Coun Lynne Smith added: "We hope this event will see the park looking much healthier and getting young people involved should give them a sense of ownership and respect for their surroundings."
Other partners involved in the events are Bradford Community Environmental Project, Friends of Wibsey Park, Church Urban Fund and Bankfoot Partnership. Wibsey's three ward councillors - Couns Ralph Berry, David Green and Lynne Smith - have all helped fund the scheme.
The aim is to reduce anti-social behaviour in the park which has seen a recent increase and reclaim the area for local families.
Those wanting to come along are advised to wear wellies and suitable clothing. if the weather is wet, activities will still go ahead in polytunnels.
