Contact can be made by any parent, child or young person. We offer services to families who are living in the Bradford area.

We also are pleased to take any calls about a child or young person who is not related to the caller if they either have the parent or guardian's permission to call, or, when the caller believes the child or young person may be at risk of harm either from their own or some one else's actions. This includes members of the public and professionals.

We will try to help and if we cannot will try to put you in touch with someone who can.

We provide help by offering advice on the telephone, sometimes we can visit at home, in which case we will look at individual circumstances in more detail and agree a plan. This can include further work from our or other agencies.

If you are older and have previously received services and wish to access any information you feel we might hold about yourself please write to us.

If you have previously been looked after by us we can sometimes provide services beyond your 18th birthday.

If you want to call us free of charge, call in at any Social Care office, where they will make you welcome and provide free telephone facilities.

Emergency Duty Team - Out of hours emergency social care

How to contact the Emergency Duty Team

Please call 01274 431010

The service is available outside of normal office hours 365 days a year:

  • Monday – Thursday 5.00pm to 7.30am the following morning
  • Fridays 4.30pm to 7.30am Monday, with 24 hour cover at weekends and throughout Bank Holidays

The EDT will respond to all calls as soon as possible but at certain times the worker on duty may be dealing with several matters or may be out on an urgent assessment. The telephone staff will advise you if this is the case and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

What we do

The EDT provides an out of hours Social Care emergency assessment and crisis intervention service in all situations where a crisis has occurred outside of office hours that cannot wait until the next working day. Our work involves:

  • Children and families
  • Adults with physical disabilities
  • Adults with mental health problems
  • Adults with learning disabilities
  • Adults who are vulnerable or elderly
  • Provision of ‘Appropriate Adults’ at Police Stations
  • The EDT’s response to referrals will be prioritised such as:
  • Where a child is at risk
  • An urgent assessment is needed under the Mental Health Act
  • Where a vulnerable adult is at risk

The team member on duty will make an assessment, on the telephone, of any immediate need or risk and then take appropriate action to ensure that an individual or family is safe until the next working day.
