Are you ready for the digital switchover?

The Bradford district went digital in September 2011.
This means the existing analogue television signal will be switched off and replaced with a new, stronger digital television signal.
Everybody needs to make some adjustments to their television sets if they want to continue to watch their programmes.
The Emley Moor transmitter, from where most viewers in the district receive their signal, switched on 7 September 2011, and the process completed by 21 September.
DigitalUK, a not-for-profit organisation, is working with local authorities and community groups to help people understand the changes and offer impartial advice.
Remember:
- You do not have to buy a new television for the switch-over. Every TV will convert to digital, even very old, black and white, or ones without a SCART connection.
- You may need to get a digital box if you have an analogue TV (one with five channels or fewer) and do not have either a freeview system or satellite package.
- Most existing aerials should be fine. Fewer than 10% of households will need a new aerial. There is no such thing as a ‘digital aerial’.
- Video and analogue DVD players will still play back and record but you won’t be able to record one channel while you watch another, unless you have a digital box.
- Don’t be scammed. If anyone comes to your door regarding digital switchover, ask for identification and verify who they are. DigitalUK staff will not call at your house without an appointment.
