What is the Older People’s Partnership?

The Older People's Partnership was established in 2005 to champion and lead on strategic working for older people aged 50 plus and their related issues across the Bradford district. The Partnership brings together a broad range of partners from both the public and voluntary sector, and includes older people themselves who are elected onto the Partnership through the Bradford and District Older People’s Alliance (BOPA).

Bradford also has its own Older People's Champion, Councillor Malcolm Sykes, whose job includes representing the views and aspirations of older people amongst other elected members and across the district.

What is the role of the Partnership?

The Partnership brings together a wide range of public and voluntary organisations to work alongside older people to help address the challenges that will face the district by the predicted increase in the numbers of older people over the next twenty years. To assist with this, the Partnership has its own Strategy ‘ Thinking About Tomorrow: Taking Action Today’. This set out a vision for all of Bradford's older people over the age of 50 to maintain their independence, feel valued and lead healthy, active and productive lives confident that support will be available for them when and where they need it.

The Partnership won a 2009 National Beacon award for its work under the Theme 'Positive Engagement of older people to support and promote greater independence and wellbeing in later life'. In its role as a Beacon, the Older People's Partnership will be working with all its partners and older people across the district to showcase our work to other Local Authorities across the country and to continue to develop our own good practice

The Partnership has its own Board made up of key partners . This meets on a quarterly basis and is chaired by Moira Wilson, Strategic Director of Bradford Council’s Adult and Community Services. Older people sit as equal and key members at every level of the Partnership.

  • Housing and support in the home
  • Neighbourhoods and Community Life
  • Economy, Employment and Learning (EEL)
  • Transport
