Nominate star youngsters!

People are being urged to nominate young Bradfordians for prestigious awards.

Now in its fourth year, the Bradford Young Citizen Awards ceremony is hosted by Bradford Council to honour special children and young people's achievements.

People are asked to recommend youngsters who have overcome some kind of barrier to go on to achieve in one of the five categories, taken from the Every Child Matters agenda - Be Healthy, Staying Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Making a Positive Contribution and Achieving Economic Wellbeing.

Individuals, aged 11 and under or 11 to 25, and groups can be nominated and the deadline is Friday, 15 January ahead of the Oscars-style celebration at St George's Hall on Wednesday, 17 March 2010.

Celebrities and sports stars are expected to attend to present youngsters with their certificates.

There are also Outstanding Achievement Awards for exceptionally high achievers or entrepreneurs.

Coun Michael Kelly, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "The Bradford Young Citizen Awards celebrate the good work that our children and young people are doing across the district.

"The awards night gives them all a chance to shine and they truly are an inspiration and deserve this recognition.

"The ceremony also reflects our b someone campaign which is all about encouraging children and young people to succeed and fulfil their potential, so I would urge people out there to get their nominations in now and flag up the achievements of our young Bradfordians."

The awards evening will also feature an array of music and dance performances by young people from across the district.
