Holiday fun for all the family

Children will be getting into the holiday spirit and donning sunglasses and carrying suitcases as part of a fun-day parade in Bradford.

Organised by Allerton Children's Centre, the colourful procession will leave the centre in Avenal Road at 11.45am on Saturday, 4 July and weave its way to Ladyhill Park for an afternoon of games and activities until 6pm.

Children and families have been working with the centre's creative artist Sue Dyde to put together a dance and drama show, and have also made costumes and a large airplane sculpture which will feature in the parade.

At Ladyhill Park there will be a marquee where children will perform Flying the Flag from the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest and read their poetry.

There will also be a beach area where families can make sandcastles, ice lollies and food prepared by Allerton's Cafe West.

Coun Michael Kelly, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "The Allerton fun day and parade are a fantastic way of bringing families together to enjoy the host of exciting activities on offer.

"It also supports the district's b someone campaign which is all about encouraging adults to support children and young people in fulfilling their potential and developing their skills."

Head of Centre Dave Morrison said: "This is a great week for us and we also held an 'Allerton By The Sea Day' earlier in the week to celebrate the centre gaining full Core Offer Designation Status, which means the centre is offering a full range of services to families.

"Adults and children have been working really hard in preparing for the parade and fun day and it will also help us to continue with our celebrations."
