Children enjoy puppet fun!

Children in Bradford were mesmerized by a special puppet show to celebrate Mother's Day.

Bradford Council Parental Involvement Worker Sally Wilkinson at Thornton Primary school organised the performance for mums and children to also help promote language and speech development through play.

The Freehand Puppet Theatre presented Who's Been Sitting in My Chair? for mothers, female carers and children - and every child was given a free finger puppet to help encourage play at home.

The show also backed the first strand of the district's b someone campaign which aims to encourage adults to take a more active role in children's education and skills development.

Coun Michael Kelly, the Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "This was a wonderful opportunity for mums, carers and children to come together to enjoy a puppet show while also celebrating Mother's Day.

"It helped to give adults some tips to help them develop children's communications skills through a fun activity - and this is one of the key messages of the district's b someone campaign which is all about encouraging children and young people to fulfil their potential and achieve."

Parental Involvement Worker Sally Wilkinson said: "I will also be running a follow-up workshop for parents which will provide further help and advice about how to tell stories and have fun when talking and reading with children."
