Children and parents look to the stars

Families are invited to check out the night skies at a special event in Bradford.

A Moon Watch will be held at Thornton Grammar School, Leaventhorpe Lane, Thornton on Monday, 9 March, from 8pm to 11pm, to mark National Science Week.

Aimed at pupils aged nine to 11, the event will give children the chance to set up telescopes with their parents or carers and examine the night sky.

Organised by science teacher Jeanette Dent, the session also supports Bradford Council's b someone campaign which encourages adults to be more involved with children and young people's education and learning to help them fulfil their potential.

Coun Michael Kelly, the Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for families to get together and learn about the moon and the constellations while also having fun."

Mrs Dent said: "The Moon Watch night also marks the National Year of Astronomy and hopefully it will help inspire children to enjoy science."

Admission is £3 and includes hotdogs and drinks. There will also be a range of moon-related craft activities on offer.
