Cheeky monkeys swing into action

Parents and their children are invited to take part in fun play and crafts activities at a new club.

Cheeky Monkeys kicks off on Saturday, 7 March at the Princeville Children's Centre in Shearbridge for children aged three to seven and their parents.

The 10am to 11.30am session will be for children aged three to four, and youngsters aged five to seven can attend the 11.30am to 1pm session.

These first sessions will focus on how parents can use simple play techniques to help children develop their skills, and will include painting and water play.

Organised by the Exceed Extended Schools, the club also supports Bradford Council's b someone campaign which encourages adults to be more involved with children and young people's education and learning to help them fulfil their potential.

The Cheeky Monkeys club will be held every other Saturday. On alternate Saturdays there is also a Dads and Lads club which brings fathers and their sons together to take part in different group sports and martial arts.

There are also plans to run nurturing programmes and cooking sessions.

Coun Michael Kelly, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "These new sessions are a great way to give parents tips on how to help their children learn through play."

Nadia Hussain, Exceed Extended Schools Project Manager, said: "The key part of a child's educational and social development is the active and positive involvement of parents.

"Both projects have been advertised via a leaflet that has gone to all schools within the cluster and we hope to see a good turn out."
