Bedtime stories are a popular way of lulling small children off to sleep for parents.
As part of the district's b someone campaign, Bradford Council's libraries are promoting World Book Day next Thursday, March 5, by celebrating this special time together for families.
Many of Bradford's libraries are holding bedtime story sessions for children up to 11 years-old with prizes being awarded to those wearing pyjamas and bringing along their favourite bedtime toy.
The libraries taking part are Central Library and Addingham, Allerton, Clayton, Eccleshill, Great Horton, Holme Wood, Idle, Ilkley, Laisterdyke, Menston, Shipley and Wibsey.
All the sessions, which last between half an hour and an hour, will take place after school. Times vary for the bedtime stories so those interested need to check with their local library before setting off.
Coun Anne Hawkesworth, Executive Member for Environment & Culture, said: "Everyone enjoys having stories read to them, so please encourage your children to come along and unwind. Parents and carers are welcome too!"
Coun Michael Kelly, the Council's Executive member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "These events are a good opportunity to bring families together and promote the importance of parents and children reading together.
"It also reflects the aims of our recently-launched b someone education campaign which urges adults to include simple exercises in their daily routines, such as reading and word games with children and young people, to help them develop their skills and fulfil their potential."
On Wednesday, March 4, professional storyteller Alec Williams, will entertain nursery children at the Central Library at 10am, and at Keighley Library at 2.30pm. Children will be dressed up as a children's story character in readiness for World Book Day.
Other events include 'Read n rhyme' at Haworth Road Library from 4pm, and an additional event is taking place at Clayton Library on Saturday, March 7, when local author Elizabeth Hopkinson will read from her book "My true love sent to Me" from 2pm to 3pm.
