All aboard for the learning journey!

Children, parents and carers will be boarding a special 'train' in Bradford for a learning journey.

Train Journey

Classrooms at Ley Top Primary school in Allerton will be transformed into waiting areas and ticket booths of a railway station for the special event which will also mark World Book Day on Thursday, 4 March from 9am to 3pm

Bradford Council's Bradford West Parental Involvement Team and the Local Achievement Partnership, the event is one of a week-long series of visits to schools in the Allerton area to help promote communication and language development among reception children through activities by creative workers from Allerton Children's Centre in Avenel Road.

Children and parents will take part in role play to discuss where they are going on a train journey, packing their suitcases and buying their tickets.

The trip will include various stories and rhymes about going on a journey, and a variety of techniques such as drama, puppets, different voices and musical instruments to help bring the 'trip' to life.

Youngsters who take part will also be given a free Thomas the Tank Engine Book to celebrate World Book Day 2010 and to promote sharing books in the home and the district's b someone campaign, which is all about helping children achieve and fulfil their potential.

Coun Michael Kelly, the Council's Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: "The train day is a wonderful way to help encourage adults and children to enjoy storytelling and role playing together - a key message of our b someone campaign - and no doubt it will be a memorable experience for all involved.

Parental Champion Mary Scholes said: "It's a great opportunity for parents and children to come together in school to talk to each other about different aspects of a train journey in a very fun way."
