Direct Debits - more information

Why pay by Direct Debit?

All Direct Debits are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

Paying by Direct Debit is the easiest way to make payment because you don't have to carry cash, write cheques or sort out paperwork and postage. Your Bank or Building Society will do all the work for you and yet you remain in control.

When can I pay by Direct Debit?

For both Council Tax and Business Rates, we offer four payment dates- either the 5th, 10th, 15th or 25th of the month. You can also choose to pay over 10 or 12 months from the beginning of the financial year.

For Other Accounts (Miscellaneous Invoices or Sundry Debts) the payment date of the 5th of the month is offered.

When will my first payment come out of my account?

It usually takes 15 working days to process the Direct Debit. This may go past the date you have chosen for your Direct Debit. If this happens, payment will be taken the next month and your payments calculated to spread the cost over the remaining period.

What if I set up a Direct Debit but miss a payment?

If a payment is not received, we will write and tell you instead of sending out reminders. If we need to adjust your payments, we will send you a bill well in advance.
