Changes to Housing Benefit – information for landlords

From 1 April 2011 Housing Benefit will be changing.

If your tenant has moved in to your property since April 2008 or has made a claim for Housing Benefit (Local Housing Allowance) after April 2008, they are very likely to be affected by these changes.

What this means is that the amount of Housing Benefit that your tenants get may go down. For those tenants who are already getting Housing Benefit the amount they get may change when we review their claim after April 2011.

The timing of when this will affect your existing tenant’s benefit will depend on their specific circumstances and we will write to let them know how and when they will be affected. Any tenant who starts to claim Housing Benefit for your property from April 2011 will be affected immediately by the changes.
