Facts about Civic Participation


Civic participation is all about getting involved in local democracy and people in Bradford are doing this in a number of ways.

A count of people involved in civic participation and local democracy in 2008 found that there were 1206 people undertaking these roles, including (approximate figures):

  • 90 CBMDC Councillors
  • 290 magistrates
  • 450 school community governors
  • 210 Parish Councillors
  • 13 hospital trust reps
  • 95 Special constables

In 2008 there were over 150 civic participation vacancies

Voluntary and Community Sector organisations in 2008 filled 9,000 positions on management committees
