Bradford Music Week was held in 2008 and 2009
The week included live gigs, seminars, workshops, exhibitions and the Launch of the World Mile Festival.
Bradford Music Week aims and Objectives:
- Showcase up and coming musical talent
- Provide employment training and work opportunities in line with Working Neighbourhood fund (WNF).
- Retain and develop musical talent in Bradford
- Raise the profile of Bradford’s Music and Culture offer
- Deliver targets for ‘engagement in the the arts’ national Agenda (Ni11)
- Develop music networks and partnership work
- Contributes to community cohesion and regeneration agendas (20/20 Vision).
- Raising the profile of Bradford as a prominent cultural centre (including legacy of the UCP).
Bradford Music Week promotes working partnerships and cohesion with local musicians, promoters, venues, local businesses, industry professionals, colleges and national musicians. The event provides platforms for local talent to showcase their work alongside national headliner bands/musicians. The event promotes music as a multi cultural experience and can be accessed by anyone who wishes to attend. The event enables local businesses to be part of an event that actively promotes the city. Without the support of our partners the event would not have been so successful.
Bradford Music Week 2008 showcased some of the best indie/rock musical talent in the Bradford district. Local bands/musicians and particularly bands from inner city NRF areas were given the opportunity to perform alongside more recognised bands such as Ash, Lightspeed Champion and Sons & Daughters.
The events also included Fresh Jive and Waxworks under 18’s break dancing competition which attracted visitors and participants from as far as Sheffield. And a ‘Mic Matters’ rap and DJ event which was run by Waxworks.
Bradford Music Week continued to grow its support from City centre businesses and these included: Polish Club, Delius, St George’s Hall, Alhambra Studio Theatre, Impressions Gallery, Starbucks, Zavvi and Bradford Playhouse.
