What is Alternative Maximum Assistance?
Alternative Maximum Assistance is help with paying your Council Tax.
It is for people of pension age who live with another adult who is on a low income.
Who can get it?
You can only apply if you are a pensioner. People of working age cannot apply.
You may be able to get this help if:
- You share your home with one or more adults aged 18 or over
That person:
- is not your husband, wife or partner
- does not pay rent to you
- does not have to pay Council Tax
- is on a low income
Does my income matter?
No.
Your own income and savings are not counted.
For example:
If you do not get Council Tax Reduction because of your income, but your adult daughter lives with you and gets Income Support, you could still get Alternative Maximum Assistance.
