Bradford District’s population on April 29th 2001 (Census day) was recorded as 467,655. This figure includes an allowance for under-enumeration due to non-returned census forms.
Bradford Metropolitan District remains the fourth largest district in England, after Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield. Bradford is the second largest centre of population in the Yorkshire and Humber region behind Leeds. The census figures also show that Bradford remains with a relatively youthful population compared to the UK average.
The latest population figure for Bradford is the Mid-2003 Population Estimate, published by the ONS, which is 477,800.
