ESIFs

The European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds, ESIFs) are financial tools set up to implement the regional policy of the European Union. They aim to reduce regional disparities in income, wealth and opportunities. Europe’s poorer regions receive most of the support, but all European regions are eligible for funding under the policy’s various funds and programmes. The current Regional Policy framework is set for a period of seven years, from 2021 to 2027.

The Landscape Planning Team are currently working on the following ESIF funded projects.

Top of Town Public Realm Improvements

Richard Oastler statue at the Top of Town

An extensive public realm improvement scheme within the ‘Top of Town’ neighbourhood of Bradford City Centre.

The project will introduce blue green infrastructure improvements to increase biodiversity and reduce flood risk, whilst improving the visual amenity of the streetscape.

The project will create a high quality environment that enriches the character of the Conservation Area, providing a vibrant, safe and attractive place where people will want to live, work and socialise; and businesses will want to trade, invest and grow.

This project is also funded from the Bradford City Centre Townscape Heritage Scheme.

European Regional Development Fund

The projects are receiving up to £3.2m of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund. Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations. Northern Powerhouse

The Northern Powerhouse is a key aspect of this Government’s approach to addressing the productivity gap in the North and ensuring a stronger, more sustainable economy for all parts of the UK. Alongside over €1.5 billion of European Regional Development Fund support for businesses and communities across the North, the government has awarded £3.4 billion in three rounds of Growth Deals across the Northern Powerhouse.
