City Library Volunteer Job role

Role: Warm Libraries
Supervised by: library staff on site
Responsible to: Area Manager

The role of the volunteer

This is a supporting role, providing additional help and support to users of the Warm Libraries space during the Winter months October to March. May mean topping up the hot water flasks, helping users to make a hot drink, signposting using advice booklets to any other support users may need. Clearing up rubbish or wiping down tables. Tasks include:

  • Helping to set up the Warm Libraries space
  • Filling up hot flasks
  • Replenishing supplies
  • Wiping down surfaces
  • Signposting users to other services as appropriate
  • Raising any concerns with Library staff

Full training and support will be provided to volunteers.

Skills and attributes required for this role

Enjoy meeting and talking to a wide range of people, from all backgrounds. Reliable and organised. Show empathy and be approachable, with a positive, non-judgemental attitude.
